~ BEACH -- Alexa Rivera has become 'IM-tough' during her two-plus years competing with the Lake Lytal Lightning Swim Team.

The Crystal Lakes Elementary School fifth-grader holds club records in all four strokes and also owns three individual medley marks.

"She's a great IM'er," Robert Rivera said of his daughter, who trains six days a week at Lake Lytal. "That's what separates her from the rest."

Alexa, 11, began swimming at age 7, at her mother's insistence.

"We had a lake in our back yard, so she wanted me to be water- safe," Alexa said. "So I started swimming."

Since, she has enjoyed tremendous success.

As an 8-year-old, Alexa set 10 records in short- and long-course competition. In the 10U division, she owns 23 club records. She also won seven individual medals -- five gold -- at the Short Course Junior Olympics in Coral Springs last March and six individual medals at the Florida Dual All-Star meet in Fort Pierce a month later.

Chinese stranded in Haiti on way home

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- A group of 48 Chinese nationals who had been trapped in quake-hit Haiti left for home on Monday aboard a special flight arranged by the Chinese government.

The plane, carrying the Chinese and members of the Chinese rescue team who finished their operations here, took off Monday afternoon from the airport of Port-au-Prince and is expected to arrive in Beijing on Wednesday.

The stranded Chinese are mostly from south China's Fujian province.
